Thoughts of an elder writer-in-progress

on May 2, 2010

Another cloud-gray morning  started me thinking about  color in writing and how it can reflect description.  For instance GRAY–smoke, charcoal, gunmetal, sooty, tattletale, hoary, stone, ashes… has a rather negative, uneasiness  about it; whereas BLUE–azure, electric, turquoise, powder, baby, royal, periwinkle,  and sky  conjures up  entirely different images.  Most of the time  (unless s/he is a critic) a reader won’t see the individual words but will simply feel the mood the writer is conveying.
